Johnson Park in Grand Forks is a small park located on 40th Street between 13th and 14th Avenues. It is halfway between our Park Place Apartments and our Grandview Apartments.

LaFave Park

LaFave Park in East Grand Forks, Minn., is a smaller park connected to the Red River State Recreation Area along the Red River. The park is within walking distance of our St. John’s Block Apartments. The park often holds events during the annual Catfish Days in East Grand Forks such as fishing contests and races.

Lincoln Drive Park

Lincoln Drive Park is a 120-acre park that offers a boat launch, dog park, sledding hill, sand volley ball court, disc golf, biking and walking trails, cross-country skiing trails, four shelters for rent, a park activities building, an outdoor recreational skating rink, 10 horseshow courts, a playground and restrooms.

The park hosts events such as the Family Fun Night in July, the Tour the Trails Bike Rally and the Trail Trek 5K Family Run/Walk in September, Veteran’s Day Cross-Country Race in November, Christmas in the Park during November and December and Greenway Ski Days in February.

Lincoln Drive Park is located at 13th Avenue South and Lincoln Drive, about a mile southeast of our St. John’s Block Apartments. Lion’s Park

Lion’s Park is located at 3211 17th Ave. S. in Grand Forks, within walking distance of our Grandview Apartments. The park is about 35 acres and is connected to a bike trail. It also has hockey and skating rinks, a playground, restrooms, a soccer area, a park activities building, six outdoor tennis courts and a field for softball and baseball. Red River Recreation Area

This recreation area provides trails for hiking and biking, as well as boating, camping and picnicking areas. You can rent a campsite for $16 per night. The Red River Recreation Area is located at 515 Second Street N.W., near our St. John’s Block Apartments. It is connected to LaFave Park. Call the park office at 218.773.4950 for more information. Its office hours are from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park provides outdoor hockey and skating rinks, a bike trail, four shelters available for rent, a playground, basketball court, four outdoor tennis courts, a sledding hill, a park activities building and restrooms.

Sertoma Park

Sertoma Park is located at 11th Avenue and South 34th Street, within walking distance of our Grandview Apartments. It is about 22 acres and connected to bike trails. It has two shelters available for rent, restrooms and a walking path. The park is well known for its acres of beautiful Japanese gardens.

A new playground will be built in Sertoma Park soon.

Symington Park

Symington Park in Grand Forks is a small park within walking distance of our Southview Apartments. It is located on 18th Street South, between 24th and 28th Avenues.

Turtle River State Park

Go 22 miles west of Grand Forks on Highway 2 to get to Turtle River State Park in Arvilla, N.D. Turtle River is a great place to visit for the day or the weekend. Outdoor opportunities at Turtle River include biking, hiking and cross-country ski trails, trout fishing and picnic sites. The park has fishing equipment available for rent. There are 125 sites available for camping in the 784-acre park. A campsite is $15 per night or you can stay in a cabin for $45. Showers are available at the park. There is also a sledding hill and a playground.

University Park

University Park provides a walking path, horseshoe courts, outdoor hockey rinks, an outdoor recreational skating rink, softball and baseball fields, four outdoor tennis courts, four shelters for rent, a playground, spray park, restrooms, floral gardens and a park activities building.

University Park is located at University Avenue and North 25th Street. The park is 17.5 acres and is located halfway between our Park Place Apartments and St. John’s Block Apartments, just over a mile from each. Call the park at 701.746.2778 or 701.746.2779 for more information.

The university’s academic divisions include aerospace sciences, arts and sciences, business and public administration, education and human development, engineering and mines, graduate school, school of law, school of medicine and health sciences, nursing and continuing education.

Tuition, fees, room and board for full-time undergraduate students for the 2008-2009 academic year is $11,534 for residents or North Dakota, according to UND’s web site. Those numbers are based off of a student living in a normal, double room with a meal plan of 14 meals per week. For full-time undergraduates who are not residents of North Dakota, the total cost is roughly $19,927.

UND’s Chester Fritz Library is the largest library in the region, with 2 million nonprint and print items. The Chester Fritz Auditorium is one of the best performing arts facilities between the Twin Cities and Seattle. The university’s department of theater arts performs a regular schedule of productions and recitals at the auditorium throughout the year. Also, UND’s Alerus Center holds major concerts for the region.

UND’s men’s and women’s hockey teams compete in the NCAA Division I. The teams compete at the 11,700-seat Ralph Engelstad Arena. Other sports, including football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, softball, basketball, swimming and diving, track, cross country and golf compete in Division II.

The campus is also known for its American Indian Student Center, which houses American Indian Student Services and several American Indian student organizations.

Several of our apartments are located within walking distance of UND, including our Park Place Apartments and Park Place Townhomes, located southwest of campus. Our Grandview I and II Apartments are just over a mile south of campus and our Southview Apartments are just a few minutes’ drive away. Also check out our St. John’s Block Apartments a short drive away in downtown Grand Forks.

Besides sporting events, the Alerus Center hosts Monster trucks, rodeos, concerts and Super Snowcross (indoor snowmobile racing).

The center’s grand opening was in 2001. It is located at 1200 S. 42nd St. and has more than 145,000 square feet available for banquets with dozens of conference rooms and a 25,588-square-foot ballroom. A shuttle service is available and parking accommodates 3,100 vehicles. The center contains 18 VIP suites.

The arena is located on the north side of the UND campus, within a mile of our Park Place Apartments and Park Place Townhomes.

Big attractions at Ralph Engelstad Arena include concerts, Stars on Ice, the Minnesota Wild and other professional sports teams. During December 2004 and January 2005, the arena hosted the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. It also held the 2008 Men’s World Curling Championship in April.

The arena is 400,000 square feet and able to seat up to 13,154 people for concerts, including 50 luxury suites. Its training facility has a 10,000-square-foot weight room, underwater treadmill and an extra Olympic sheet of ice.

The mall has three department stores, JC Penney, Sears and Macy’s and 70 smaller stores, services and restaurants, including a 360-seat food court.

Find what you’re looking for at Columbia Mall’s stores specializing in books, shoes, jewelry, music, entertainment and children’s, men’s and women’s clothing. The mall’s newest additions are the Sports Zone, a children’s play area and the Dakota Café. It is the largest mall within 70 miles and opened in 1978.

Lake Agassiz Elementary School is a part of the Grand Forks Public Schools system. The school enrolls about 365 students from kindergarten through fifth grade and employs 80 staff members.

The school’s curriculum includes art, health and wellness, math, media, reading and writing, science, technology, social studies and online keyboarding. Its mascot is the mustang.

The student-teacher ratio is 11 to one at Lake Agassiz. The school wants to provide a positive, accepting and challenging learning environment enabling all students to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens in a world that is always changing.
